Water Awareness Day, Nov 10

Next Wednesday on November 10, the Student Group at Villanova University will host the second annual Water Awareness Day.  The mission of the day is to raise consciousness about the world water crisis that affects over 1.1 billion people around the globe, including so many in Waslala.

Letter Writing Campaign and Solidarity Tank, 2009

Signs about the international water crisis will be posted in bathrooms and above water fountains.  Buckets with dirty pond water will be located along walkways with reminders that this type of water services the daily water needs of many Waslalans.  The student group is spearheading a letter writing campaign for the Water for the World Act, which passed in the Senate but remains under consideration in the House.

Building off last year’s success, there will be a “Solidarity Tank” located in the center of campus.  Students who make the “Solidarity Tank Pledge” commit to fulfilling all their water needs for the day from a common water source, including basic routines like brushing your teeth and washing your hands, along with drinking water.

The event will culminate at 4:30pm in the Villanova Cinema with a viewing of the MTV documentary “Summit on the Summit” about a group of celebrities who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of the global water crisis.

Here’s the video again from last year’s event:
